Font ❤️ Friday and Other Designery Things #29

Hi Reader,

Thanks for Subscribing ♥

Welcome to the first Font Love Friday of 2025! I didn’t send one in January because last month was just a massive blur. I launched my podcast Creatives Like Us and hosted an event with the same name, for creatives of colour. Which was brilliant. But I also had to do jury service. Which was not so brilliant. Then with catching up with all my work I had no capacity to write this newsletter. I love writing it and I know from your messages you enjoy it too, so thanks for sticking with me.

Let’s get going!

It’s been my dream to be featured on the Creative Boom website or podcast. And now I can say, I was there! Katy Cowan kindly advertised the event in partnership with Ayo Abbas, Creatives Like Us. Of course whilst checking the website, I scrolled! I found this article, 50 top fonts of 2025. Some we know already. Some are new. I needed some font joy and found:

They say: “Jubel is a feeling of exuberant expressions of joy and celebration, often accompanied by a sense of pride and accomplishment. The letters in Jubel are bold and capture the happiness and enthusiasm of a festive celebration. The thick strokes and lively curves exude excitement, reflecting the jubilant mood.”

Just look at that lowercase e. Looks like a smile! And two e’s together look like eyes and a smile. Joy!

See the full 2025 list here and the typeface Jubel here.

FONTS

Inside the Square
I listen to lots of podcasts. I do love ’em! On the podcast Inside the Square the host Becca Harpin gives a short but to-the-point episode on Understanding Web Fonts. A good one if you’re starting out designing online.

Blooming into life
The charity Parkinson's UK has had a rebrand which includes a new logo and typeface designed and developed in-house by Red Stone. “Crafted to be visible, approachable, flexible and accessible, Parkinsans defines the brand voice.” Parkinsans (great name) is available to all and can be found on Google fonts. Read more about the rebrand here.

DESIGNERY THINGS

Calendar inspiration
I know, I know! It’s the end of February so you might be wondering “why buy a calendar now?” Well, as well as being very bold and bright, some of these are now reduced in price! Take a look at the Design Milk article. A great source of inspiration too.

PR images
Looking for interiors or design product images? Maybe you’ve got an article that needs something different from the usual photo library images? Try Press Loft. Sometimes I use them for my blogs or suggest them for editorial use. Swoon over the beautifully styled products and interiors. Sign up for free images to use for editorial use.

All aboard
Another pod! The Good Ship Illustration podcast is a great listen for illustrators. The hosts share stories around navigating a creative life and offer practical tips on your projects.

FREELANCING

YATM Lunch Club London
Last month I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel at the first Wandsworth You Are The Media Lunch Club, on Creativity. It’s normally held in Poole but they’re moving to London too. The next Wandsworth event is on 3rd April, all about Personal Brand. There are some tickets left, take a look here.

Join the Crew
Cowork Crew is a brilliant source of inspiration and support for freelancers. It’s in-person coworking and networking. With cake! I know collabs that have happened as a result of meeting there, and the organisers Penni and Jo are all about connecting people. There’s a lunchtime talk (I did the last one in London with Ayo about our Creatives Like Us event) and the venues are always freelancer-friendly. Tea and coffee on tap! They also provide the best cake for the afternoon tea break. Need help with your LinkedIn? There’s a regular online session on planning, complete with prompts. Sign up!

Freelancer Magazine
The new issue is out in March. As well as getting a fantastic magazine, when you subscribe you become part of the membership “The Movement”. There’s resources and three online coworking sessions each week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings.

If you get it, you’ll see a write-up by me for a networking event hosted by Jess Bruno. Check out Ne’Twerking happening in March. I went to one in December, fun times and collabs for sure!

#FONTLOVEFRIDAY

For the new subscribers here, thank you for joining me and the Font Love Friday and Other Designer Things crew! I send this out on the last Friday of the month. Most months… January was the first one I’ve missed, I swear! Okay, maybe the second. 😆

Friday funnies! Over on LinkedIn, designer Dave Officer has created names for made-up fonts. My favourites are Glyph Upper Lip and The Italic Job. Ha ha! For more take a look here.

I love when the FLF Crew members send me images and fonts they’ve seen in the wild. My friend Jill sent this over. What do you think of this pizza? Does it look like a cheesy 💩 …hmm this might not make my Friday takeaway. Have a great month ahead!

Have a great month ahead!
